| Milan, or Milano to give it its Italian name, is Italy’s second largest city and the capital of Lombardy, Northern Italy. It is also the cultural, industrial and financial centre of Italy, one of the main international fashion centres and its design industry enjoys global acclaim. Although steeped in history, the former capital of the western half of the Roman Empire is today a fast-paced trendy metropolis with up-market shops along the Quadrilatero d'Oro or those for the less wealthy, on the Corso Buenos Aires. But the list of tourist attractions is also lengthy, from the incredibly enormous and ornate Duomo (cathedral) in the Piazza de Duomo – Milan’s nerve centre – to the La Scala opera house, art museums, galleries galore and elegant palazzos. And admirers of Leonardo da Vinci will find his technical drawings and models in the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e Tecnica and can book a viewing of his "Last Supper".
