Pretty Porto Azzurro, population around 3500, is located on the east coast of Elba in the inlet of Mola Gulf, overlooked by the imposing Spanish fort of S. Giacomo on one side and Fort Focardo on the other. The name Porto Azzurro means blue harbour and refers to the colour of the sea. The attractive town square by the sea is the place to meet on balmy summer evenings and the picturesque alleyways offer chic shopping, bars, restaurants, and local handicrafts. The town has a small beach with other charming coves nearby.
